I tried, I tried for over a month but I just couldn't get into this book. After a handful of chapters I gave up because the author just doesn't come across as a likable person. He's enthusiastic but not engaging. There are some good stories and insights but I just found myself getting more and more frustrated.If your love of Anthrax can get you past his ego, you'll love this.

Bit of a mixed bag

This is a very honest book written very clearly in Scott Ian's own voice. It was very interesting to see the interplay between bands like Anthrax, Metallica and Pantera in the early days, especially given Pantera and Metallica's relative massive success compared to Anthrax in terms of record sales. You do end up feeling sorry for Scott as Anthrax get screwed over by the record company again and again.That being said, some of the sections came across as a little dull, perhaps a little whiny and left me a little unsympathetic towards Scott. You go in to a rock autobiography expecting a little more craziness, looking at Slash, Keith Richards or Nikki Sixx as examples. I read Duff Mckagan's autobiography around the same time which was similar in tone but was more engaging and enjoyable.I get he has written a truthful and honest book and not exaggerated anything but if you don't have the hook of rock-star insanity to draw the reader in then focusing on the lack of marketing your record company did is probably not going to cut the mustard in my opinion. Perhaps more insight and depth in the other areas like the technical challenges in recording the albums might have helped, but those sections felt skipped over.Anthrax fans will eat up the stories, those with a more casual interest might be disappointed.
